Welcome to The Bostonbeerman Blog

Feel free to use this site to ask me any questions about beer or the class.

Simple question to get things started! Of the 8 beers we have tried so far, which one is your favorite and why?

Definitely the Taddy Porter. You weren't lying when you said it goes well with seafood!

Andrew had the Taddy Porter the other night with his infamous white clam pizza. The Taddy is great with steak and chocolate desserts like tiramisu and chocolate truffles.

I enjoyed a nice Rogue Mocha Porter last night with Market Basket tortilla chips.

It not on the same level as a Fullers London but worth the try.

I love just about any beer by Rogue and porter is one of my favorite styles. Fuller's London Porter is one of the best in the world. We will be having Fuller's Pale Ale next week and we had Samuel Smith's Taddy Porter the first week.

The Mocha Porter is very good. Not so sure about those Market Basket tortilla chips though...

I really enjoyed the Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale (our very first!). I enjoyed its consistency and want to get my hands on more!

That is a good way to describe Anderson Valley Boont Amber. It is very consistent from start to finish. Well balanced and super drinkable. While you are at it, try their others. I don't think they make a bad beer. They have even dabled in dubbel and tripel Belgian styles recently. I tried them on a recent trip to Pasadena and I was pretty impressed.

Katherine,

You can get all the Anderson Valley products at Julio's on Route 9 in Westborough and there is a good chance you can get it at Marty's (Newton and Allston) or Charles St. Liquors (Boston). I will be distributing a list this Thursday that features the best places in the area to purchase good beer.

Happy hunting.

I really liked the English Style Old Ale and the Scottish Ale. . . which surprised me. And I found the little ball instide the can to be really interesting . . . . I have been planning on going to get some cans of my own since we tried it.

Kara,

I really like that Harpoon English Old Ale too. Get it soon if you want more, cause once they sell out, that is it. Well, unless of course they decide to do an encore! :)

There are lots of British, Irish, and Scottish beers in those nitro cans. Boddington, Caffrey's, Wexford, Old Speckled Hen, Guinness, Murphy's Stout, Beamish, all come to mind. Generally if the beer is in a larger can and it is from one of these countries, it is likely to have the nitro cartridge in it.

I would always prefer a draft beer, but when you don't have that choice, the nitro cans give you that draft look and feel.

My favorites so far have been the Taddy Porter and the Belhaven Scottish Ale. This pretty much confirms my suspicion that I'm a dark beer person. :)

Last night I tried the Sam Adams winter brew and I thought it went great with my cheeseburger. It had a deep caramel color, malty smell and crisp malt taste.

I saw this article in the bbc. Check it out.
